I am reevaluating the career of Major General Ambrose Burnside because he has been unjustly interpreted by historians based on the exterior view of his career. By exterior view I mean through the eyes of other officers, newspapers, or government officials. I hope to understand more about Burnside’s decision process during his career. So in essence why was Burnside used as a scapegoat
Throughout General Burnside’s career he received no recognition for the multitude of successes while used as a scapegoat for failures that were out of his control. Burnside should be looked upon more favorably as one of the Federal Army’s more capable and innovative commanders.
(I believe that I shared the Zotero with you)
